Interface Builder (IB) by IEG is the incredibly flexible Web Form builder that easily exploits browser capabilities with
minimal change or expertise. From it's initial release in 1999 to the current version, IBdotNET, has seen continuing
enhancements and is now integrated with Agile Business Suite. Our client base consists of various lines of business
including major software development companies. The output from IBdotNET can be classic ASP forms or ASPx forms
based on Microsoft .Net framework.
IBdotNET is a visual studio VB rewrite of its predecessor IB which was written in LINC code. One benefit of the current
product is its coordination with ABSuite in a by-drectional manner. ABSuite can be configured to initiate IBdotNET web
generation as part of an ABSuite Build or ReBuild process. Likewise, IBdotNET can be configured to initiate ABSuite Builds.
The benefit is the web environment and the runtime application remain synchronized.
IB's strength is the flexibility of an infrastructure that enables adding graphical functionality and customizing client or server
processing without having to have significant web-based programming skills. Whether it is one of the many IEG defined
libraries/controls or one that you put together, Interface Builder manages these controls and ensures they are included as if
they were part of your original design. Therefore, updated web sites always contain all the features you have requested.
Another strength is the ability to leaverage existing GUI interfaces. There is a significant investment in ABS/EAE applications. However, due to the age of many ABS/EAE applications, there is a gap between the original design and the capabilities of today's web browsers. IB helps bridge this gap. Our goal is to automate the enhancing of existing forms. When new features are implemented, instead of significantly modifying exiting application logic, IB can lessen application changes by using user defined controls and enhancing server and client side processes.
IB's flexibilty is limited only by our imagination. Let's take a look at some of the resolved problems by visiting the
illustrations
tab above.
Contact IEG for further information and ask us about features you would like to see illustrated.
Dynamic Web Alteration (DWA) is a power tool to add to your development tool chest. Developers can dynamically change
the way any form element appears or behaves by using application program logic. The developer can determine under
what conditions to change a field's backgroundColor or make a button disabled. An entry is added to a simple list box which
is then processed with the form where the attribute changes are applied. The result is the end user receives new
functionality or presentation objects inplace of the original form.
While we can generate customization directly into the 'generated' ASPx form, DWA dynamically generates changes directly
to the ASPx form as part of the ASP.NET form Life Cycle. This approach produces unlimited dynamic change capability. Nearly
all HTML attributes or JavaScript styles can be dynamically applied to any 'addressable' form element.
With the incorporation of IEG's Dynamic Web Module (DWM) model, your can have these same features as part of your
application. DWM is available as an EAE mdl file or an ABSuite model file. Loading this partial model allows you to
incorporate DWM as part of your application design and security. Using DWM allows you to integrate changes based on
data dependancies such as user logon values. Since DWM is part of your application all DWA requests become part of
your application data repository.
What can you do with DWM and DWA? Well the answer is... 'Just about anything.' Knowing that answer does not explain much about DWA let's look at various
illustrations.
These features are available to all IEG Interface Builder clients and a limited version of DWA is available to clients using the Unisys Generator (GenerateFormASPdotNET.dll).
DWM is also a great way to implement proof of concept prototyping, as well as, debugging aids.
Contact IEG for information on how DWM can work with your application.
What is Information Migration?
- Information Migration (IM) is a solution for EAE sites wishing to move their application to
EAE or ABSuite on available platforms. Running your application on Windows using ABSuite is a viable solution. To ensure
the most successful means to migrate both specifications and data, Information Migration automates much of the process
and can provide results in less than 25% of original time estimates while lowering costs and risks. The IEG products and
services, known as Information Migration, apply to EAE development and test environments.
The Approach
- The Information Migration process addresses the movement of application
data
and ABSuite/EAE
source code
. Information Migration creates ABSuite/EAE report programs, specifically for the user's application, to unload
data from the existing repositories in a platform independent format and then reload the data into the target repository.
EAE specifications are evaluated and modifications are automated to replace reserved words, remove control sequence
highlighting, and propose/change LDL verb inefficiencies in DETERMINE and LOOK.UP constructs. For web deployment, the
Information Migration process assists with replacing non-standard web fonts and resizing the grid used for painting to
spread out the form in both directions. This is the last oppportunity to automate these changes prior to moving into ABSuite.
For those who have not created graphical user forms, the migration process can apply user defined standards and generate
GUI forms for all of your character based screens.
Experience and Resources
- The Information Exchange Group, Inc. (IEG) was founded in January of 1995 with a goal of providing clients a means of effectively and appropriately applying information technology to their business problems. Each IEG Director has in excess of 43 years of ABSuite/EAE experience. IEG has evolved the Information Migration process and has successfully migrated EAE specifications to just about every qualified ABSuite/EAE platform.
Contact IEG for information on how IM can improve your migration experience.
To all IEG clients and business associates.
The Information Exchange Group, Inc. (IEG) wants to express our great appreciation to all our clients,
beginning in 1995, for over 27 years. It has been an honor to provide support and services to each of you. We
have been blessed with your cooperation, challenges and creativity. It was recently shared
with me that IEG's skills, professionalism and products were great but what really made a difference
was IEG was part of their business family.
Now it is time to say farewell. Information Exchange Group is closing the doors effective Dec 31 2022.
I personally want to express my appreciation to my partners:
Philip Kauffman: The educator and planner. The first of us to learn LINC. The one who dug
deep into how products worked, how to communicate it to others to use it
effectively for the benefit of our clients and company.
Lynn Wilson: Meticulously organized, creative and thorough and knew of no problem or question
that could go unanswered after completing his research and investigation. A true problem
solver. But, more important a Godly man. I will miss you.
Lynn went to be with Jesus Christ September 4 2022.
I especially want to thank their families for their support.
It has been an honor to serve the God that created me, my partners who could be leaned on,
our clients who make it worth our time and effort. I am a better person because of them.
